Local SEO is how a business gets found when people nearby search for what it offers, such as “hairdresser 1070 Vienna” or “electrician near me”. The four things that matter most are a complete Google Business Profile, a steady flow of genuine reviews, a website with a clear page for each service and location, and the same name, address and phone number everywhere. Most small businesses can do the basics themselves in a few hours.
1. Set up and complete your Google Business Profile
Your Google Business Profile is the listing that appears on Google Maps and in the local results at the top of search. It is free and often brings more calls than the website itself.
- Choose the most precise main category, plus relevant secondary ones.
- Add your exact address or service area, opening hours, phone number and website.
- Upload real photos: outside, inside, team and work. Add new ones regularly.
- List your services with short descriptions and, where possible, prices.
- Use posts for offers, news and events.
- Answer questions and keep holiday hours up to date.
2. Collect and answer reviews
Reviews are one of the strongest local ranking signals, and they decide whether people call you or the business next to you.
- Ask every happy customer, ideally right after the job, with a direct link to your review form.
- Answer every review, positive and negative, briefly and politely.
- Never buy reviews or offer rewards for positive ones. It breaks Google’s rules and Austrian competition law.
3. Make your website locally relevant
- One page per service. “Bathroom renovation” and “kitchen installation” each need their own page with their own headline and FAQ.
- Mention where you work. Name your city, district and nearby areas naturally in headings and text. For several locations, create a page for each with real local details.
- Put your address and phone number in the footer and on the contact page, as text, not only in an image.
- Add LocalBusiness structured data so search engines read your details correctly.
- Make it fast on a phone. Most local searches happen on the move.
4. Keep your details consistent everywhere
Your business name, address and phone number should be identical on your website, Google, Apple Maps, Facebook, Instagram and directories. In Austria, check listings such as Herold.at and industry platforms relevant to you. Inconsistent details confuse both customers and search engines.
5. Earn local links and mentions
Links from local websites tell Google you are part of the community: suppliers, partners, local associations, event sponsorships, local news coverage and chamber or guild listings. A few relevant local links beat many random ones.
6. Track what works
Use Google Search Console to see which searches bring visitors, and the performance view in your Google Business Profile for calls, direction requests and website clicks. Check once a month and adjust.
How long local SEO takes
A complete Google Business Profile can bring results within weeks. Ranking pages on your website for competitive local searches usually takes three to six months of consistent work.
Proof from a real project
Art Quartal Tattoo, a studio in Stuttgart, had no visibility on Google for any relevant search. We combined a new bilingual website with keyword research, on-page optimisation and a technical setup for high-intent local searches. The studio now ranks for more than 40 first-page keywords, gets ten times more website visitors and four times as many bookings.

Our opinion
Start with your Google Business Profile and reviews this week. They cost nothing and often bring the first new calls. Then make sure your website has a clear page for every service you want to be found for.
